New grant provides support to improve the health of rural Kentucky county

A new initiative led by a University of Louisville nursing faculty member to address food insecurity and healthy eating in Perry County, Ky., has received $100,000 in grant funding.

Selected as part of the Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge, the Aetna Foundation, together with the American Public Health Association and the National Association of Counties, will support communities that are changing the way they work together across sectors to reduce disparities in chronic disease outcomes.

PhD student receives National Black Nurses Association scholarship

PhD student Jade Montanez Chatman has received the Lynne Edwards Research Scholarship from the National Black Nurses Association.

The $5,000 scholarship is sponsored by Linda Burnes-Bolton, NBNA Past President and a trustee of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which contributes to the scholarship. The scholarship is named in honor of Burnes-Bolton's mother.

Chatman will be honored during the association's Awards and Scholarship Ceremony on July 27 during the 47th-annual NBNA Institute and Conference in New Orleans.


 

Nash named assistant VP of interprofessional practice partnerships

The University of Louisville is meeting the demands of the rapidly changing healthcare system by enhancing education and collaboration among healthcare disciplines.

Whitney Nash, PhD, APRN, FAANP, UofL School of Nursing associate dean of practice and service, has been appointed assistant vice president of interprofessional practice partnerships at the UofL Health Sciences Center.

Assistant Professor Paul Clark speaks on resilience at Distinguished Nursing Lecture

Last month, Assistant Professor Paul Clark spoke at the third-annual Distinguished Nursing Lecture at Baltimore's Sinai Hospital.

The talk was titled “Donning Your Personal Resilience Equipment: Nurses and Engagement in a Challenging Healthcare Environment.”

Clark's research centers on health services, developing and deepening the concept of resilience, moral distress and workplace engagement with a long-term goal of developing and implementing interventions that improve resilience.

Professor inducted as American Academy of Nursing fellow

Marianne Hutti, a leader in women’s health care and professor at the University of Louisville School of Nursing, has received one of the highest honors in the nursing profession.

Hutti was among 195 nurses worldwide inducted in the 2018 class of the American Academy of Nursing fellows, which recognizes distinguished nurse leaders who work in education, management, practice, policy and research. The induction ceremony took place during the academy’s annual policy conference Nov. 1-3 in Washington, D.C.

School of Nursing professor receives national educator award

Paul Clark’s passion for educating future nurses is evident before you enter his lab, his warm voice floating into the hallway.

Clark, Ph.D., R.N., University of Louisville School of Nursing assistant professor, has received the Novice Faculty Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), which recognizes excellence and innovation in the teaching of nursing by novice faculty at association member schools.
