Celebrating Over 50 YearsÂ
The tradition of nurse training in Kentucky began in 1886 when the Old Louisville City Hospital and the Norton Memorial Infirmary launched the first schools of Nursing in the state. In the decades that followed, various local hospitals hosted their own nurse training programs. However, with the end of the City Hospital School in 1967 and the pending closure of the Norton School in the early 1970s, the University of Louisville opened the School of Nursing in 1974.
