Donna S. Engleman, 1988 School of Nursing B.S.N. alumna, has been named a 2016 University of Louisville Alumni Fellow, part of the Alumni Association's Wilson Wyatt Alumni Awards. The awards are given to prominent graduates who have earned distinction in their careers and have been exemplary ambassadors for the university.

School of Nursing instructor named top nurse under-40 by National Black Nurses Association

University of Louisville School of Nursing Instructor Cynethia Bethel-Jaiteh has received the National Black Nurses Association Under 40 Award, which recognizes nurses age 40 and younger who have shown strong leadership and excellence in practice. She was honored during the association’s national conference in Memphis, Tenn., on Aug. 5.

Answering the call for LGBTQ health equity

At least once a day, the University of Louisville LGBT Center receives a call from a person asking for the name of an LGBTQ-friendly physician. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) individuals often report that they avoid the health care system because they experienced discrimination in a medical setting. This can lead to poorer health outcomes for these individuals.

School of Nursing research shows presence of children at home did not motivate parents to test for radon, secondhand smoke

A University of Louisville School of Nursing researcher has found that the presence of children in the home did not motivate parents to test and mitigate for radon and secondhand tobacco smoke, both of which cause lung cancer. The findings underscore the need to raise awareness of these exposure risks and their long-term effects on children.

Take the leap: Advice from a recent RN to BSN program graduate

Emily Neal, a forensic nurse specialist and recent graduate of the University of Louisville School of Nursing online RN to BSN program, encourages other registered nurses to earn their bachelor of science in nursing.

The completely online program has been named one of the 10 best RN to BSN programs in the country by AffordableCollegesOnline.org.

Women with recent pregnancy loss needed for study

As many as one-third of parents who experience the loss of a pregnancy may suffer from intense grief, resulting in anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress. Marianne Hutti, PhD, APRN, coordinator of the Women's Health-Family Nurse Practitioner Dual Major Program at the University of Louisville School of Nursing, is leading a study that will help nurses and physicians predict which individuals would benefit from intervention to cope with intense grief over the loss of a pregnancy.

UofL nursing associate dean to represent Kentucky nurse practitioners

Whitney Ann Nash, Ph.D., M.S.N., A.N.P.-BC, associate dean of practice and service for the University of Louisville School of Nursing, has been elected to serve as the Kentucky representative for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She will begin a two-year term following the Annual Membership meeting of the AANP National Conference on June 13 in New Orleans.
