Owensboro BSN students eligible for cash award from Owensboro Health

The Owensboro Health Foundation has established a $5,000 award for graduating B.S.N. students from the University of Louisville School of Nursing Owensboro Extension Program.

Starting in fall 2016, the Vicki M. Stogsdill Award will be given to one graduating student every semester who has shown dedication to learning and excellence in practice and leadership. The award recipient must work for Owensboro Health for at least a year post graduation.

Alumni Fellow transitioned from bedside nurse to leadership role at FDA

Donna Engleman’s quest to serve patients took her from the bedside to overseeing allegations of regulatory misconduct at the Food and Drug Administration.

Engleman, a 1988 B.S.N. graduate of the School of Nursing, has been named a 2016 University of Louisville Alumni Fellow, an honor bestowed to prominent graduates who have earned distinction in their careers and have been exemplary ambassadors for the university.

School of Nursing professor honored by Presentation Academy

University of Louisville School of Nursing Professor Marianne Hutti, Ph.D., A.P.R.N., will be honored by Presentation Academy at the 21st-annual Tower Awards dinner Thursday, Oct. 13. Hutti, coordinator of the School of Nursing’s women’s health-family nurse practitioner dual major program, is being recognized as a leader in education.

The Tower Awards honors female leaders, highlighting their contributions and talents in their respective fields. Funds raised from this event support the school’s tuition assistance program.

UofL research group wins award at international perinatal mental health conference

A University of Louisville research group won the best poster award at The International Marcé Society for Perinatal Mental Health conference, held in Melbourne, Australia, Sept. 26-28. The poster, which presented the impact of evidence-based guidelines for educating new mothers about postpartum depression in the hospital setting, was presented by undergraduate nursing research scholar Krista Vogt.

Nurses in Kentucky, Southern Indiana chosen for 3rd-annual Nightingale Awards

Six nurses in Kentucky and Southern Indiana who have improved the lives of patients, their community and the profession have been chosen as recipients of the third-annual University of Louisville School of Nursing Florence Nightingale Awards.

The winners, as well as six honorable mentions and nearly 80 other nominees, will be recognized at the Nightingale Awards dinner on Nov. 3 at the Mellwood Arts Center.

School of Nursing alumna chosen as president of AWHONN Board of Directors

Jennifer Doyle, a 1998 M.S.N. graduate of the University of Louisville School of Nursing Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner program, has been elected president of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Board of Directors.

Her year-long term will start on Jan. 1.

 

Four School of Nursing faculty members receive UofL awards

Four School of Nursing faculty members were honored at the 2016 University of Louisville Celebration of Faculty Excellence, which took place Sept. 20.

Professor Vicki Hines-Martin received the Distinguished Faculty Award in Service, Assistant Professor Heather Mitchell received the Distinguished Faculty Award in Teaching, and Associate Professors Mary-Beth Coty and Carlee Lehna both received the Community Engagement Faculty Award.

Nursing scholar presents impact of postpartum depression research in Australia

The culmination of Krista Vogt’s research on the impact of evidence-based guidelines for educating new mothers about postpartum depression in the hospital setting will be showcased internationally.

Vogt, a University of Louisville School of Nursing undergraduate research scholar, will present at the Marcé Society for Perinatal Mental Health conference in Melbourne, Australia, on Sept. 26.

International learning opportunities available for nursing students

School of Nursing students are encouraged to participate in international learning opportunities on four trips planned for 2017. Students have the option of participating in the Belize, Croatia and Haiti programs, as well as a new trip to Cuba planned for October 2017.
