The University of Louisville School of Nursing is an essential partner in a research-intensive academic health sciences center with schools of dentistry, medicine, and public health.

Our faculty create and disseminate new knowledge to improve health outcomes and quality of life of a variety of populations. These populations include persons with chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, cardiovascular disease, and substance abuse, teenage mothers, persons with cancer, children with special needs and their caregivers, and persons in long-term care, to name a few. Key research foci include:

  • Self-management of Symptoms of Chronic Conditions
  • Health Services Research
  • Mental Health Promotion
  • Environmental Health
  • Child and Adolescent Health

Research Interest Groups provide a collaborative platform for faculty and students to advance nursing science through interdisciplinary dialogue and innovative research initiatives. They foster scholarly development and serve as incubators for impactful research aligned with the School’s mission to improve health outcomes.

The UofL SON’s BSN to PhD program prepared me for a role as a nurse scientist through the pursuit of scholarly inquiry, engagement with critical thinking, and constant curiosity that kept me engaged throughout the program. I am now able to continue studying moral distress in a career I love and without UofL SON’s BSN to PhD program and awesome faculty this would not have been possible.
