Serving Health Care Needs of Backside Workers
The Kentucky Racing Health Services Center (KRHSC) is a nonprofit clinic funded by the Kentucky Racing Health and Welfare Fund (KRHWF). The center was started in 2005 as a joint venture between the fund and the UofL School of Nursing to provide comprehensive health care to the backside workers of the thoroughbred racing industry. The KRHSC provided more than 13,000 patient visits in its first 10 years of service.

The KRHSC provides care for acute conditions (minor injuries such as sprains and strains. Illnesses such as respiratory infections, earaches, and the flu), preventative services (physicals, women’s annual exams, pap smears), chronic conditions (diabetes, asthma, hypertension), and pediatric services.
Nurse practitioners can also help individuals and families coordinate care with other healthcare providers.
