Promoting Research and Scholarship
The Office of Nursing Research (ONR) supports faculty and student research in numerous ways. We are committed to providing the highest quality of support to promote research and scholarship in the School of Nursing.
Proposal Assistance
The ONR assists faculty from conception of a proposal idea to the close out of the study. We support faculty in identifying funding sources, proposal development, developing budgets, completion of necessary paperwork, and proposal submission. Fill out our Grant Assistance Form at least 21 days in advance if you intend to submit a proposal on behalf of UofL.

Award Administration
The ONR works with faculty on the acceptance of the award and review of award expenditures to remain in compliance with the award’s terms and conditions. The ONR assists faculty in preparation and submission of progress reports and works closely with faculty in closing out the award.
Research Support Services
Graduate Research Assistants are available to help with manuscript, poster, and PowerPoint preparation for dissemination of research. Assistance is also available for IRB submissions, literature searches, data entry, data analysis, reference citations in EndNote, and APA formatting. If you are a current faculty member and wish to have a graduate research assistant help with a project, please fill out a work request.
Assistance is also available for faculty and students presenting at conferences. Fill out a material request if you need a poster printed, or to check out any supplies we have available for traveling researchers.
Scholarship
The ONR is allotted a limited amount of funding each year through the Ruth B. Craddock fund for the promotion of nursing student research. The purpose of this funding is to provide financial assistance to currently enrolled students who wish to fund their dissertation research or present their findings at a conference. The amount of the award will be determined by the number of requests and the availability of funds. Find out more information about eligibility or fill out an application for assistance.
Posters
The Office of Nursing Research provides funding for poster printing for faculty and staff to present their work at academic conferences. See below steps to making a request.
1
Check requirements
Be sure to check your conference webpage for poster dimension requirements. If they are not listed, it's a good idea to reach out to them directly to ask before sending your poster for printing.
We require a minimum of 8 business days to process poster printing. The University has a contract with Canon for printing services. You should be aware the Canon Print Shop will charge a $20 rush fee for any poster needed quicker than this. The School of Nursing will not pay the rush fee.
2
Use our template
The School of Nursing has academic poster templates we highly recommend our people use. We have these in standard sizes using a PowerPoint Slide.

Order the poster
You must submit a Materials Request form.
- If you wish to check out a poster tube, you can select this option in the form.
- Poster tubes must be returned within 5 business days of return from your trip.
When ordering the poster, we will need to know:
- Where it will be presented
- Date it will be presented
- Date the poster will need to be ready for you to pick up
- Source of funding to pay for poster printing – e.g. Research and Scholarship Committee, grant, etc.
- Any other special instructions
If you realize there is a change that needs to be made to the poster after it is submitted to Canon, let us know immediately. If we notify them before it is printed, Canon can put the job on hold, and we can submit new artwork, without an additional cost.
