Qualification Details
Financial assistance is awarded to qualified undergraduate and graduate students to:
- Conduct a research project.
- Disseminate research findings at a professional conference.
- Support a faculty mentored research conference experience.
Criteria for Awarding Ruth Craddock Funds
- The student must be enrolled at the SON in the semester for which they are requesting support.
- Undergraduate and graduate students in any SON program are eligible to apply.
- The student’s faculty research advisor/mentor must support the application.
- All graduate students must concurrently apply for funding from the Graduate Student Council/Graduate School to maximize the use of Ruth Craddock Funds. You are expected to apply to GSC/SIGS as soon as you receive notification that your abstract is accepted, because the pool of funds available is often limited.
Application
- Students must submit the application at least 30 days in advance of the project or event to be considered.
- Applications that are incomplete and/or not approved by the research advisor/mentor will not be reviewed.
Competitive Basis
The application will be reviewed by the members of the Research and Scholarship Committee. The committee will give priority to support research and research presentations. Funds will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis. Applications will be accepted throughout the academic year as long as funds are available. If a student has remaining funds available from their initial application, they may re-apply to utilize the remainder of the funds. Fund allocations reset at the beginning of the Fall semester.
Award Allocation
The amount of the award will be determined by the merit and quality of the application, the number of requests, and the availability of funds. The Research and Scholarship Committee will award a maximum of $1,000. Awards will be administered on a reimbursement basis for those without a university-issued travel card.
Notification
Students will be informed of the funding decision by the Research & Grants Manager.
- If applicable, all travel arrangements (registration, airfare, hotel, per diem, ground transportation, etc.) must be made by the Office of Nursing Research. Early bird registration is required when possible.
- For research grants, expenditure of funds must be coordinated with the Research and Grants Manager in the Office of Nursing Research.
Students approved for funding who do not successfully complete the activity outlined in their application must return all funds awarded.
Final Report
A final report must be submitted within 60 days after project completion to the Research and Grants Manager in the Office of Nursing Research. The format for the final report is included in the application. If a final report is not completed within the 60 days, the student will not be eligible for future funding. A sample final report can be found in the application.
Travel receipts should be submitted to Julie Dunlevy.
