An APRN Scholarship for Nursing Leadership in Underserved Communities
Through a federally funded Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) Advanced Nursing Education Workforce (ANEW) grant, a limited number of tuition-only scholarships are available for students who wish to participate in the UofL School of Nursing Empowering Leadership and Evidence-based practice with Vulnerable populations through APRN Training Experiences (Cards ELEVATE) program.
Cards ELEVATE aims to prepare nurses to provide culturally competent care for people in medically underserved areas by:
- Providing access to experiential learning opportunities that help students gain broad experience working with underserved and vulnerable populations
- Deepening students' understanding of health inequities, the social determinants of health, and the impact of access to high-quality care on individuals and communities in underserved areas
- Guaranteed clinical placements with licensed preceptors in health provider shortage areas (HPSAs) or medically underserved areas/populations (MUA/P) and staff support to secure such placements
ANEW scholarships provide:
- Up to full-tuition funding
- A dedicated academic support coach
- Curated professional development opportunities, as well as social supports
- A special distinction cord and recognition at graduation
To complete the Cards ELEVATE curriculum, students must log a combined minimum of 500 clock hours of experiential learning; 400 of these hours will come directly from each student’s required clinical placement(s) in underserved areas. The remaining 100 hours can be selected from a curated list of experiences across a broad range of topics.
