About the Second-Degree Accelerated BSN Program
The Second-Degree BSN program is a hybrid accelerated program that prepares students with a bachelor's degree in any area outside of nursing to become entry-level professional nurses. This program has two locations: Louisville, Kentucky and Owensboro, Kentucky. As citizens of a larger community, we focus on addressing the complex healthcare needs of diverse and dynamic populations through nursing education, research, scholarship, and service. Benefits of the program include:
- 15 months to graduate
- Lectures offered online
- Clinical experiences starting first semester
- Over 500 clinical hours in diverse clinical settings.
- Utilization of high-fidelity simulation labs
Our students graduate prepared to demonstrate excellence in nursing science, practice, and leadership in a variety of settings for the benefit of clients across the lifespan and to meet the evolving healthcare needs of society. Our BSN program also provides the foundation for master and doctoral degrees in nursing.
The following prerequisites are required for the lower division portion of the ABSN degree program:
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Chemistry for Health Professionals or higher-level Chemistry. Introduction to CHEM not accepted. – minimum grade of C required
- Anatomy and Physiology I with lab – minimum grade of C required
- Anatomy and Physiology II with lab – minimum grade of C required
- Microbiology with lab – minimum grade of C required
- Lifespan Developmental Psychology
- Statistics
Note:
*All prerequisites must be completed and recorded prior to beginning the upper division portion of the ABSN degree. This includes any bachelor’s degree still in progress. Students may apply for upper division while prerequisites are in progress.
*Prospective students are recommended to contact their appropriate academic advisor for an evaluation of prerequisite credits and suggested completion timeline.
The Upper Division portion of the program consists of all nursing lectures and clinical coursework. Courses in the Upper Division are completed online, with clinical and lab hours completed in person.
