As we step into a new academic year, I’m filled with optimism and pride for all that lies ahead at the University of Louisville School of Nursing. The energy on campus is palpable, and it’s clear we’re off to a great start.

Updates Behind the Scenes

This semester, we welcome several new faculty and staff members whose expertise and enthusiasm will help us continue advancing our mission to educate professional nurses who lead with compassion, innovation, and excellence. Their presence strengthens our commitment to preparing students for the evolving demands of healthcare and reinforces our culture of collaboration and support.

We’re also making exciting progress on our physical space. The third-floor lobby is undergoing a complete remodel, transforming it into a modern, welcoming entry to the School of Nursing office suite. Another standout update is the Cardinal Confidence Room, now equipped with a large touch-screen TV, flexible table and seating arrangements, and bold UofL branding. It’s an inviting space designed to connect our students, faculty, staff, and guests. This is only the beginning, as we have additional plans to update our communal office space soon. I invite you to visit us and see for yourself the great things that are happening here.

Chapter Recognition

I’m also thrilled to share that our Sigma Iota Zeta Chapter has been awarded the prestigious Chapter Key Award for 2023–2025. This honor recognizes chapters that exemplify excellence in fulfilling Sigma’s mission, vision, and goals. Over the past two years, the Iota Zeta Chapter has implemented a strategic plan that includes a leadership intern program, community service initiatives, enhanced recruitment and retention strategies, partnerships with other chapters, philanthropic efforts, and consistent support for research and scholarship. I’m proud to support this chapter both as Dean and as a member, and I want to extend a heartfelt congratulations to the entire Iota Zeta leadership team. A special thank you goes to Dr. Hardin-Fanning, who led this effort with the support of Dr. Anderson, Dr. Shumaker, and many dedicated committee members. Kudos to all!

If you haven’t joined Sigma yet, now is a wonderful time to consider becoming a member and connecting with this vibrant community of nurse leaders.

Opportunity to show your support

Looking ahead, we’re gearing up for Raise Some L on October 21-22, UofL’s annual day of giving. This year promises to be especially meaningful as we have many team members dedicating time and effort to raising funds for our students. I encourage all of our alumni, faculty, staff, and campus partners to make a gift of any amount to support the next generation of nurses.

As always, thank you for your continued dedication to our students, our school, and our shared mission. Let’s make this semester one to remember.
