Associate dean, endowed chair in nursing research, geriatric NP professorship named

Debra Anderson, PhD, PHCNS, BC, has accepted the position of UofL School of Nursing professor and associate dean of faculty affairs and operations, effective Aug. 1. Her role will include faculty development, wellness initiatives and operations. She will replace Ruth "Topsy" Staten who is retiring. Anderson comes from South Dakota State University's College of Nursing where she was associate dean of research. Her research expertise in workplace violence, homelessness, vulnerable populations, domestic violence and occupational health will be essential to enhancing the School of Nursing's research efforts. 

Frances Hardin-Fanning, PhD, RN, will join the School of Nursing on Aug. 1 as professor and the Shirley B. Powers Endowed Chair in Nursing Research. Hardin-Fanning currently is the Saxon Endowed Chair in Rural Nursing and associate professor at the University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing, and previously was a tenured associate professor at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, where she served in multiple leadership roles. Her research focuses on developing and testing nutrition interventions in rural Appalachia. She developed the University of Kentucky’s MedVet to BSN program, an accelerated option for military medics to obtain a BSN degree funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). She has had more than $4,000,000 in funding.

Candace Harrington, PhD, DNP, APRN, AGPCNP-BC, ANP-C, will join the School of Nursing on Aug. 1 as an assistant professor and will hold the Geriatric Nurse Practitioner Professorship, which is funded by Trilogy, Signature and Elmcroft to support a geriatric nurse practitioner faculty member with a research focus in older adults. Harrington will be integral to the long-term care community with her expertise and funding initiatives. She is nationally recognized as a nursing content expert in management of chronic disease and heart failure in older adults residing in long-term care settings. Harrington brings more than 30 years of geriatric experience in long-term care and geriatric clinics.
