Freshman Students
Freshman students apply to the Owensboro Extension and to lower division through the UofL Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Preferred deadline- December 1 for scholarship consideration
Owensboro Major code: NU BSNOW
Freshman applicants must be admitted to UL and the lower division of the nursing major in the semester they plan to apply for upper division. Admission to lower division is a requirement to apply for upper division.
Owensboro freshmen applicants must meet the following for admission consideration:
- Complete the UL Undergraduate Admissions application to the lower division of the nursing major NU BSNOW.
- Be on track to complete all lower division required courses by end of summer semester term.
It is recommended that official college transcripts are on file with UL Admissions.
The Owensboro extension exclusively offers the upper division portion of the BSN degree. Therefore, incoming freshmen to Owensboro must also be eligible to apply for upper division by the May 1 deadline. Eligibility to apply for upper division includes the following:
- 2.8 minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA and a 3.0 minimum nursing program GPA.
- Admission to UL and the lower division of the nursing major by the recommended April 1 deadline.
Upper Division Application Timeframe
Fall cohort: March 1-May 1
Spring cohort: September 15-November 1
Owensboro applicants with questions regarding eligibility to apply should contact Todd Richardson.
Applicants with 24 or more transferable credit hours from a regionally accredited institution must meet the following admissions requirements to be admitted into lower division:
- Minimum 2.8 cumulative undergraduate GPA of all colleges attended.
- Does not have 2 or more NURS prefix grades of C- or below from previous institutions.
- Not previously dismissed from a Nursing program.
Applicants with 12-23 transferable credit hours earned at a regionally accredited institution must meet the following admissions requirements to be admitted into lower division:
- 3.0 GPA (excluding dual credit courses)
- Grade of C or higher in an equivalent College Algebra course
