Freshman Students
Freshman students apply to the Owensboro Extension and to lower division through the UofL Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Preferred deadline: December 1 for scholarship consideration
Owensboro Major code: NU BSNOW
Freshman applicants must be admitted to UL and the lower division of the nursing major in the semester they plan to apply for upper division. Admission to lower division is a requirement to apply for upper division.
Owensboro freshmen applicants must meet the following for admission consideration:
- Complete the UofL Undergraduate Admissions application to the lower division of the nursing major using major code: NU BSNOW
- Complete all UofL lower division requirements by the end of the summer semester term, complete the UofL freshman application, and attend a mandatory orientation in June.
It is recommended that official College transcripts be on file with UofL Admissions.
The Owensboro extension exclusively offers the upper division portion of the BSN degree. Therefore, incoming freshmen to Owensboro must also be eligible to apply for upper division by the applicable fall or spring deadline. Eligibility to apply for upper division includes the following:
- 2.8 minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA and a 3.0 minimum nursing program GPA.
- Admission to UofL and the lower division of the nursing major by the recommended April 1 deadline.
Upper Division Application Timeframe
Fall cohort: March 1-May 1
Spring cohort: September 15-November 1
Transfer Students
Prospective transfer students applying to the Owensboro extension will apply to the lower division of the nursing major on the Office of Undergraduate Admission - Transfer Services website.
Owensboro major code: NU BSNOW
Preferred Deadlines: April 1 for fall term; October 1 for spring term

Applicants with 24 or more transferable credit hours from a regionally accredited institution must meet the following admissions requirements to be admitted into lower division:
- Minimum 2.8 cumulative undergraduate GPA of all colleges attended.
- Does not have 2 or more NURS prefix grades of C- or below from previous institutions.
- Not previously dismissed from a nursing program.
