About the JCPS Health Science Academies Direct Admission Program

Seniors enrolled in the JCPS Health Science Academy; Pre-Nursing Pathway program are eligible to apply to the UofL School of Nursing direct admit program.  This program guarantees students admitted as first time freshmen into the lower division nursing program a guaranteed space into the selective upper division portion of the program.

One student from each qualifying health science academy will be selected. by the UofL School of Nursing. In the event an academy does not have a qualified candidate for their spot, additional qualified candidates may be selected from any of the eligible academies.  

Qualifying Health Science Academies

  • Butler High School
  • Central High School
  • Moore High School
  • Pleasure Ridge Park High School
  • Seneca High School
  • Waggener High School

Eligibility to Apply:

  • ACT 22 composite; ACT/Math 22 or Accuplacer 263 QRAS/250 Reading
  • Minimum 3.0 high school cumulative grade point average (GPA);
  • Admitted as a first-time freshman at UofL before applying to the direct admission program

Application Requirements:

  • An essay of 500 words or fewer describing interest in a career in nursing;
  • Letter of recommendation from a pre-nursing pathway faculty--you will be required to submit name and contact email address for the faculty member; and
  • UofL School of JCPS Health Science Academy Direct Admission application - all documents to be submitted by the January 15th deadline of the student's senior year of high school. Application available on the UofL School of Nursing website beginning September 15.

Maintaining Eligibility:

  • Acceptance of a specific spring semester upper division start date (If an earlier start date is determined possible by the nursing academic advisor in the first semester of enrollment at UofL, a fall upper division semester may be approved by request)
  • Maintenance of a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8, and a nursing program GPA of 3.0 each academic year
  • No repeats in required science or nursing courses, as defined in the university catalog
  • Compliance with all applicable UofL policies and procedures
