RN-BSN Compliance Deadlines
BSN Prelicensure students: Visit the Prelicensure Clinical Compliance page for program-specific compliance requirements.
The semester you take the course determines your clinical compliance deadline:
- Fall semester start: August 15th
- Spring semester start: December 10th
- Summer semester start: April 15th
Materials are not allowed to expire during the term of enrollment. The term runs from the first day of class through the last day of final exams.
RN-BSN Program Clinical Compliance Requirements
The required items are submitted via CastleBranch, Campus Health, and OnBase. No materials are submitted to the School of Nursing.

Background Check & Drug Screening
You use the same CastleBranch account for your criminal background check and your drug test. Keep your CastleBranch login username and password. If you don't know your account information, contact the Customer Service Department at (888) 666-7788, ext. 7194.
Criminal Background Check: Students are responsible for the CastleBranch fees. The background check should be ordered no later than 5 business days prior to the clinical compliance deadline. Use the same CastleBranch account that you used when you requested a drug test. If you have not completed your Drug Test, you may select the Background Check-Drug Test package.
CastleBranch Background Check Instructions:
- Select "Place Order" from the dropdown box select BSN and the Louisville Campus.
- Select the "NI53 Background Check - Drug Test Package".
- If you already submitted a drug test, select "Criminal Background Check" only
Drug Screening: Students are responsible for the CastleBranch fees. Go to the following CastleBranch website to register for the test. Use the same account that you used when you established your background check. If you have not completed your Background Check, you may select the Background Check - Drug Test package.
CastleBranch Drug Screening Instructions:
- Select "Place Order" from the dropdown box select BSN and the Louisville Campus.
- Select the "NI53 Background Check - Drug Test Package"
- If you already ordered a background check, select "Drug Test" only.

Immunization Compliance
Immunization Compliance: The University of Louisville has clear guidelines regarding Health Professional Student immunizations which you can view here: Health Professional Students Immunizations — Campus Health Services.
View a list of required immunizations. You will be required to complete and submit a checklist along with your proof of immunization. Please read the information carefully. Students can make an appointment to get vaccinated at Campus Health How to Make a Vaccine Appointment — Campus Health Services or be vaccinated elsewhere.
Submission of Vaccination Documents: For vaccinations not completed at Campus Health, students submit documentation electronically to Campus Health. Students may upload documentation to their Campus Health patient portal at louisvilleportal.pointnclick.com using their ULink username and password to log in.or they may email documents to the Campus Health Immunization Coordinator at immunize@louisville.edu.
UofL Campus Health and the UofL Health system are completely separate systems. If your information is on file at UofL Health, you will still need to submit proof of compliance to Campus Health.
COVID-19 vaccine requirements vary from clinical agency to agency. As such, agency restrictions could affect these options for students who are not vaccinated. Students can find the exemption request process for flu and COVID on the Campus Health webpage.

CPR Certification
Must complete CPR training through the American Heart Association: BLS for Healthcare Providers OR American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers.
Requirement fulfilled by submitting a copy of the CPR card to the OnBase submission portal.

Health Insurance
Upload the front and back of your current health insurance card.
Upload documentation to the OnBase submission portal.

Student Consent & Release Form
Please access the Clinical Compliance Student Consent and Release Form to view and sign this document. Please ensure the witness section is also complete before submitting.

Proof of Registered Nursing Licensure
Upload the verification from the KBN registry (or state where you are licensed) with the expiration date clearly shown.

Bloodborne Pathogen Compliance
Course offered online by the university on the Department of Environmental Health and Safety (DEHS) website. Provides a Certificate of Completion.
Only the online course offered by the University of Louisville is acceptable. Upload your Certificate of Completion.
Instructions for the online training:
- Access DEHS training.
- This will take you to a log in page; use your UofL username and password to log on.
- Click on BioRaft
- Under "on-line training courses" click on Bloodborne Pathogens Training.
- After you are logged in, click “Launch”
- Review modules
- Take quiz (if you miss any, it will take you back to those questions until you receive 100%)
- To get the certificate, you can go to www.louisville.bioraft.com, log in with your UofL username and password, go to “My Training”. This will list all of the training you have taken that is provided by DEHS. You can print a certificate from there. If you have problems, contact DEHS at 502-852-6670.

HIPAA Training Courses
- Registering for HIPAA courses offered via the CITI platform (www.citiprogram.org) is required before the first clinical semester. It does not have to be renewed unless the university has notified us. Instructions for HIPAA Training
Registering on CITI for the first time:
- Go to the CITI website: www.citiprogram.org
- From the home screen, click on Register at the top right
- Select Your Institution or Organization: Type the University of Louisville in the first box ( do not check the second box for Independent Learner Registration). Check the I agree and I affirm boxes. Continue and follow directions.
- Personal Information: Enter your first and last name, as recorded with the university. Under email, use your UofL email (userid@louisville.edu) as the email address. You can add another preferred address to the Secondary email address field if you'd like. If you do not use your primary UofL email address (not your PEA) in the first email field, your training results could be delayed when posting to iRIS. Please note: the email addresses entered here are the ones to which any future password requests will be sent; you are encouraged to use stable addresses and make sure to enter them without any typos. Continue to the next step.
- Create Your Username and Password: Follow the instructions on the page regarding size and criteria. The username and password can be anything of your choosing that is accepted by the system. Continue to Step 4
- Information requested by UofL: Complete the demographic information. The system requires fields marked by an asterisk. If you have a University of Louisville ID (Employee or Student), please enter it in the Employee Number field. Continue to the next Step.
- Click on “Learner Tools” next to “Active Courses.” Click “Add a Course” at the bottom of the page. If you would like to take the offered COVID-19 courses, you may do so now; however, you may also click “Not at this time” to proceed to HIPAA training.
- Select ‘I know what I need to take, just show me the full menu of courses’. Click ‘Next’. (Note: Any HIPAA courses listed under “Completed Courses” are outdated, so please ignore them.)
- Select the HIPAA Privacy - Students and Instructors (ID: 109374) course. Click ‘Next’.
- You will be directed back to your Courses page. Under “Courses Ready to Begin,” choose the HIPAA Privacy—Students and Instructors module to begin the training.
The requirement is fulfilled by submitting a copy of the completion page to the OnBase submission portal.
